Dale Aldridge Stone, 87, of Memphis, passed away at St Francis Hospital in Memphis on
October 12, 2024. He was born in Canaan, Mississippi, on February 10, 1937, to Ruben
Woodson Stone and Amy Rebecca Aldridge Stone.
Dale graduated from Ashland High School in 1956. After high school, he served his country in
the Army during his early adult life. He was proud of his time in the service, where he spent the
majority of his time deployed in Germany during the late 1950s. He had many fond memories of
those times and talked about them often.
He married the former Mary Deloris Akin of Ashland, Mississippi on July 18,1959 and lived in
Memphis, Tennessee.
He worked in the trucking industry for most of his adult life. He began his career in the trucking
industry as a truck driver and later worked as a dispatcher. He worked at Campbell 66, Jones
and Holland truck lines, retiring from Holland after a long and successful trucking career.
He was a faithful follower of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He served for the great majority
of his adult life at both Kensington Baptist Church and later at Gracewood Baptist Church. He
served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, worked with the youth and drove the bus on
youth trips and served in countless other ways. He was a humble servant always willing to lend
a hand anywhere it was needed.
He always loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed attending as many events as he
could to encourage his grandsons in their many activities throughout the years. He enjoyed
traveling with a group of close friends and playing golf with a group of golf buddies. He was a
loving and caring father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He will be greatly
missed by everyone who knew him.
Dale is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Deloris Akin Stone, a son, Jeff Stone (Verna) of
Wylie, Texas, and a daughter, Jackie Peters (Jon) of Memphis. He also leaves two sisters, Jo
Barnes of Olive Branch and Meg Thomas of Ashland, seven grandchildren, Josh Stone (Jonna),
Jeremy Stone, Jared Stone, Judd Stone, Jonathan Peters, Jerry Peters, and Jackson Peters,
and two great grandchildren, Walter Stone and Mabel Stone. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Kay
Akin Ormon (Charlie) and brothers-in-law Charles Akin and Nick Akin (Marilyn).
Services for Dale will be held in the Chapel of the Holly Springs Funeral Home on Friday,
October 18, 2024, at noon. The family will receive family and friends at a visitation beginning at
10:00 am and continuing until service time. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the American Heart Association or
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Dale.
