Alfred Brantley Wilson

Alfred Brantley Wilson of Red Banks, Mississippi, left this world for his
eternal home on February 27, 2023, at the age of 78. Alfred, known to
many as Al or Sonny, was born on February 11, 1945, to Rufus Brantley
and Hazel Saxon Wilson in Marshall County, Mississippi. Following
graduation from Holly Springs High School in 1963, Al received a
football scholarship to Northwest Mississippi Community College. He
served his country in the U.S. Army, and served a tour of duty in Korea.
Upon completion of his time with the Army, Al joined Delta Airlines,
where he worked until retirement in 2000. He was a long-time member
of Red Banks Baptist Church.

Al is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Watkins Wilson, two
children, Angela Wilson Bain (Walter) and Jason Brantley Wilson, and
one brother, Norman Kent Wilson. He also leaves two grandchildren
whom he loved, Anna Lauren Bain and Brooks Alexander Bain. His
parents, Rufus and Hazel Wilson, preceded him in death.

Aside from his love of sports, Al also enjoyed busying himself with
gardening, engine repairs, hunting, small carpentry projects, fishing, and
working crossword puzzles. He loved visiting with friends and never
met a stranger.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the service, which will be held
on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Holly Springs Funeral Home, with Brother
Danny Worsham officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00, with the
service to follow at 1:00. Al will be laid to rest at Red Banks Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to the Red Banks Cemetery.

My heart is breaking for all of you. Sonny was my idol growing up. I wanted to be a great baseball player like he was. I wanted to be able to hunt, fish and dive like he could dive off the high board at Wall Doxey State Park. Even though we lived many miles apart whenever we got to visit we were like we had never been apart. I was always thrilled to get to see him. Rest in peace my wonderful cousin.

Nancy... Alfred and I hunted a bit together, played football together, and worked some together... we jibed in about every way. he is one of those people I'd choose if I could choose friends to be around me all through life. Alas, really haven't seen him since high school. I have no doubt that he was a good godly man... he was a godly young man,
