Lynn Stanley McCallum, 89, and a lifelong resident of Cornersville, passed away peacefully at Baptist Hospital Union County on December 26, 2022. He was born at home, in Cornersville, on December 28, 1932, to Shields Earl McCallum and Georgia Goode McCallum. Mr McCallum was a graduate of Potts Camp High School and Delta State University. He was a United States Air Force veteran, and received an honorable discharge after four years of service as an Airman Third Class. He retired after thirty six years as a teacher at Potts Camp School, where he wore many hats that included bus driver, senior sponsor, score keeper at basketball games, and friend and mentor to all he taught. Mr McCallum was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher and a deacon for many years. He had a big heart and a strong compassion for all of the children whom he touched.
Mr McCallum is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Peggy Teel McCallum, two daughters, Lindy Holmes (JJ) and Jill Stephens (Rodney), both of Potts Camp, and a son Lance McCallum (Cole) of Cornersville. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Caleb and Charlie Holmes, Hutton and Harlynn Stephens, and Deuce, Georgia, and Levi McCallum, and siblings Twilla Rutherford and Joe McCallum. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings EV (Vleet) McCallum, George Vance McCallum, Alene Randolph, Red McCallum, Dorothy Forester, and SE (Jack) McCallum.
Services for Mr. McCallum will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Salem Baptist Church at 11:00 am. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Holly Springs Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 28, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial, following the service will be at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Brother Randy Bynum and Brother Phillip Brock will officiate. Pallbearers will be Caleb Holmes, Hutton Stephens, Deuce McCallum, Levi McCallum, Tom Cooper, Keith Cooper, Jonathan Moore, Kyle Poole, Justin Roberts, Gene Sanders, and Mike Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Brock, Earl McCallum, Gary McCallum, Terry McCallum, Don Randolph, Ken Randolph, Bill Rowland, Jimmy Rushing, and John Paul Teel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Salem Baptist Church, to be distributed to Mr McCallum's favorite Christian charities. |
